At long last: El Caliente

Finally a tune worthy of pulling me out of my sweatshop and inspiring enough to use to spread some holiday cheer (as if it's not making me sick already) by sharing it with the likes of my fellow Interwebbers. There's nothing really new or remarkable to hear here that hasn't been done in another time or place , but Mr. Costello gets it absolutely right and rings so true to the bygone sounds of inspiration with just the right dash of the new softer, lusher mechanics of today that it still sounds fresh, even though it hints that it could of been made ages ago in land without Live.

Last night I hobbled out of the house with a knee and back that are on strike at the moment to see one of the most prolific dance music duos of the 00's. It was quite an amusing affair to say the least, though I finally gave up an hour deep into a set that was dead in its own tracks on a sound system that's too big for it's britches. I won't say much about the performance or name the artist's out of respect, but I did have one thought...

After noticing that every few songs the music quality and vibe would fall like an Acme anvil, and that I'd look up and see that the current operator of the main controls was on an express bus to Gurnsville with his haphazard hat on backwards, I couldn't help but wonder what sort of action I might take if I were in a duo and my partner was (as it seemed) too *insert your favorite expression for complete and total inebriation here* to play. I think that there should be some sort of truce that you make, kind of like you would always be sure to tell them if they had food in their teeth etc. If one of us is way in over his or her head and bringing the ship down, the other assumes visible control of things. Seriously, give it up and if you still want to be part of the action start dancing around like Bez or something. That's what I wanted to happen so badly last night, but unfortunately that wasn't the case and the tag-teaming disasterthon continued much to my chagrin.

Because I know there are people out there who simply cannot resist (especially those who aren't often subjected to the wonders of adult contemporary radio). Surely it's not the "Wham! Rap," so it could be worse. Christmas is simply not Christmas without George Michael's threats of giving his heart to someone else this year, year after year after year after year...even again, now, 23 years later.
